La líder opositora venezolana resaltó que la región y la comunidad internacional deben buscar la pronta recuperación de la democracia en Venezuela, porque de lo contrario todo el continente se verá afectado, principalmente por un incremento de la migración venezolana.

Mambí en A/ Gustavo Marcano, ministro consejero de Venezuela en Estados Unidos, ofreció una entrevista al programa La Tarde una vez se conociera que los contactos de mediación en Noruega entre representantes del gobierno interino de Juan Guaidó y del régimen de Nicolás Maduro no llegaron a ningún acuerdo.

Marcano resaltó que el Gobierno de Noruega y la comunidad internacional debe darse cuenta que no se está “frente a un gobierno, ni a una dictadura tradicional, es un narco-régimen”.

“No habrá ningún tipo de posibilidad de negociar con el narco-régimen”, resaltó Marcano.

“La única posibilidad de que podamos llegar a una elección verdadera es que salgamos del régimen que usurpa el poder y que se produzca un proceso de transición”.

The 2013 Václav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent Awarded to Ali Ferzat, Park Sang Hak, and the Ladies in White

Barcelona/ Mambí en A/ The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) today announced the recipients of the Václav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent. The 2013 laureates are: Syrian cartoonist Ali Ferzat, North Korean democracy activist Park Sang Hak, and Cuban civil society group the Ladies in White—represented by their leader Berta Soler. They will be honored at a ceremony during the 2013 Oslo Freedom Forum in Norway on May 15.

An initiative of New York-based HRF, the Havel Prize for Creative Dissent was founded with the enthusiastic endorsement of Dagmar Havlová, widow of the late poet, playwright, and statesman Václav Havel. The inaugural laureates were Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, Saudi women’s rights advocate Manal al-Sharif, and Burmese opposition leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

Ali Ferzat is a Syrian political cartoonist known for his satirical caricatures. Ferzat's cartoons became increasingly critical of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad and the brutality of the regime’s crackdown. In 2011, masked gunmen detained Ferzat and broke both of his hands and his fingers, a clear message of intimidation and retaliation for his work. Ferzat recovered from the attack and continues to produce political cartoons.

Park Sang Hak, a North Korean defector and human rights activist, has worked for the democratization of his homeland since a daring escape in 1999. He is the chairman of Fighters for a Free North Korea, an organization that uses helium balloons to transmit human rights and pro-democracy literature, DVDs, USB drives, and transistor radios from South Korea into North Korea.

The Ladies in White (“Las Damas de Blanco”) is a Cuban civil society organization founded by the wives, sisters, mothers, and daughters of political prisoners jailed during the Castro regime’s “Black Spring” crackdown in 2003. “Las Damas de Blanco” wear white to symbolize their commitment to non-violence. Despite repeated arrests and beatings by Cuban authorities, the group marches every Sunday in Havana to protest the lack of human rights under the Castro dictatorship. Berta Soler has led the group since the death of founder Laura Pollán in 2011. Soler will accept the award on the group’s behalf.

The three Havel Prize laureates will receive an artist’s representation of the “Goddess of Democracy,” the iconic statue erected by Chinese student leaders during the Tiananmen Square protests of June, 1989. Each sculpture embodies the spirit and literal reality of creative dissent at its finest, representing the struggle of truth and beauty against brute power. The Havel Prize laureates will also share a prize of 350,000 Norwegian Kroner.

The Havel Prize is funded jointly by grants from the Brin Wojcicki Foundation and the Thiel Foundation. The Brin Wojcicki Foundation was established by Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, and his wife Anne Wojcicki, co-founder of 23andMe, a leading personal genetics company. The Thiel Foundation, established and funded by entrepreneur and venture capitalist Peter Thiel, defends and promotes freedom in all its dimensions: political, personal, and economic. Vaclav Havel was chairman of HRF from 2009 until his death in December of 2011.

2013 Oslo Freedom Forum: Five Years of Challenging Power

OSLO, Norway (April 12, 2013)—The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) will hold the fifth annual Oslo Freedom Forum on May 13, 14, and 15. Hundreds of the world’s most influential dissidents, innovators, journalists, philanthropists, and policymakers will unite in the Norwegian capital for a three-day summit exploring how best to challenge authoritarianism and promote free and open societies.

This year’s forum is themed Challenging Power, a reflection of the growing OFF community that—by inspiring action and defending freedom—reveals the contributions that can be made when individuals confront arbitrary power. The exceptional speaker line-up for the 2013 conference includes Chinese dissident Chen Guangcheng, Peruvian Nobel Laureate Mario Vargas Llosa, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, Malaysian lawyer Ambiga Sreenevasan, Syrian cartoonist Ali Ferzat, Tibetan Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay, Serbian non-violence strategist Srdja Popovic, hedge fund manager and anti-corruption campaigner Bill Browder, Syria Deeply co-founder Lara Setrakian, and former U.S. State Department official Alec Ross.

“The biggest ‘human rights summits’ in the world are organized by dictatorial regimes and usually take place at the United Nations. The Oslo Freedom Forum is the antidote to this—a vital space for true human rights defenders to share their stories, exchange ideas, and meet those who can support their work,” said HRF president Thor Halvorssen.

The event will center on a range of topics—the art of dissent, asymmetric activism, new tools for rights advocates, the power of media, women under Islamic law, and the threat of authoritarian capitalism. Areas of focus include: Angola, Bangladesh, Belarus, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Cuba, Egypt, Iran, North Korea, Palestine, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, and Zimbabwe.

This year, the Oslo Freedom Forum will also hold break-out workshops for participants on best practices for information security, video advocacy, citizen journalism, and confidential communications. The conference will culminate on the evening of May 15, with the presentation of the second Václav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent. The Havel Laureates will be announced on May 1. The 2012 Havel Laureates were Aung San Suu Kyi, Manal al-Sharif, and Ai Weiwei.

Inicio de la segunda fase de las conversaciones con las Farc

Durante la rueda de prensa realizada en Noruega, el jefe negociador del Gobierno de Colombia para el proceso de paz con las Farc, Humberto de la Calle Lombana, pidió a la guerrilla no salirse de la agenda de cinco puntos acordada previamente por los plenipotenciarios de ambas partes.

Las declaraciones se dieron luego de que el jefe del equipo negociador de las Farc, Iván Márquez, leyera un discurso en el que planteaba la necesidad de revisar los Tratados de Libre Comercio, los contratos de explotación minera e incluso la estructura de las fuerzas militares.

“Ni inversión extranjera, ni modelo de desarrollo económico se van a discutir en la mesa”, señaló categóricamente De la Calle Lombana.

Humberto de La Calle también agradeció la colaboración de Noruega y Cuba. Ambas naciones han colaborado en la realización de estas conversaciones desde sus respectivos basamentos fundamentales, Noruega por los derechos humanos, y Cuba por su relación directa con los terroristas.

Los asesinos precian más la vida de un ser humano que la justicia europea

Barcelona/ Mambí en A/ El Tribunal de Oslo ha condenado al ultraderechista Breivik a 21 años de cárcel prorrogables por considerarle penalmente responsable de los atentados de hace un año en Noruega.

La pena será cumplida en un centro de máxima seguridad en el penal de Ila, al oeste de Oslo, donde permanece en prisión preventiva desde hace un año.

Breivik, que aún no ha dicho si acepta el fallo o lo recurre, reconoce los hechos de que se le acusa, pero niega ser culpable, alegando defensa propia aunque todas sus víctimas estuviesen desarmadas.

Breivik ha admitido que mató a 77 personas e hirió a más de 240 cuando bombardeó el centro de Oslo y luego abrió fuego en un campamento juvenil el año pasado.

La comunidad europea se opone a la pena capital o pena de muerte como castigo para actos criminales, sin embargo, 21 años de condena para un criminal confeso, que asesinó a 77 personas, la mayoría jóvenes, devalúa la vida de un ser humano a tan solo 0,27 años de prisión, lo que dista del sentimiento que impulsa a criminales como Breivik, que sabiendo el alto valor de una vida humana, intenta por medio de su asesinato causar el mayor dolor posible. Lo que nos lleva a la paradójica conclusión, de que los asesinos precian más la vida de un ser humano, que la justicia europea.
